Why the South African biogas market is struggling to take off
Market and policy
It is an emerging market but with a high potential, of more than 200 MW of electricity. Biogas could be produced from urban waste, residues from the farming sector and waste water. However, the current system of incentives does not encourage development of the sector, and the bureaucracy is slow. Within this context, the South African Biogas Industry Association is working hard to change course.
