Germany, with 5 GB of biogas plants installed, will remain a profitable market for this sector. But on one condition: flexibility.
Market and policy
It’s beyond doubt: biogas will remain a key player in the German market for a long time to come. It’s essential, however, to aim for “flexible biogas” by renovating existing plants and enabling them to increase or reduce their energy production to adapt to the volatility of the market. Daniel Holder explains that flexibility is a valuable resource in modern energy markets, in which production quotas will increasingly depend on non-programmable renewable sources.
