The GEF (Global Environment Facility) Biogás Brasil project is an initiative by the government of Brazil, created to boost the development of the biogas sector in the country. The aim is to support – through a series of local actions – the transformation of organic waste, and in particular agroindustrial waste, in electricity, thermal energy and fuel. Thanks to this initiative, not only would Brazil be in a position to take advantage of economic and social benefits, but it would also be able to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere!
The Brazil GEF Biogas Project is led by the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations (MCTI), implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The International Center for Renewable Energy (CIBiogás) is the main implementing entity of the Project.
