Biorefineries in Greece: what is their potential?
Market and policy
Biorefineries have been a hot topic for some time, especially in the context of sustainable development and biofuels. The reason for this is because a biorefinery is able to convert waste, by-products and other materials to biopolymers, biofuels, biogas, electricity, heat and hydrogen. As in other places, this concept has also caught on in Greece, where there are several raw materials available and, in particular, organic waste. How are biogas and biofuels produced through these new systems? Here’s a focus on Greece.
