With more than 1,400 biogas plants in the agriculture sector, Italy has tremendous potential for the production of biomethane from this industry. In fact, even though up to now around 70% of the biomethane produced comes from OFMSW (separate collection of organic waste), it is precisely in agriculture that there are as many as 8 billion Sm³ of potential biomethane. This is therefore the sector that needs to see the most investments, ensuring that the incentives provided by the Decree of 2018 will continue even after 2022.

Let’s take stock of the current situation and the future prospects for biomethane in Italy in this interview with SNAM, one of the world’s leading energy infrastructure companies.
