This year too, the European Biogas Association launches its Statistical Report, now in its eleventh edition. The Report is the reference document on the state of the art and the potential of biogas and biomethane in Europe. According to the report, the combined production of biogas and biomethane in 2020 was 18 billion cubic metres and this figure is expected to double over the next 9 years. Biomethane will be the protagonist of future Europe and it is estimated that by 2050, 30-40% of the total consumption of gas in the Continent could consist of sustainable biomethane, produced mainly from industrial, municipal or agricultural waste.
