5.4 million m3 of biogas a year for the waste treatment plant in Malta
Landfill and Waste
The North Waste Treatment Facility in Malta processes all the solid urban waste on the island, which amounts to about 76,000 tonnes. It consists of two parts: the mechanical treatment where the large solid waste is treated and an anaerobic digestion plant. In the latter, the organic fraction is combined with agricultural substrata to produce biogas and, therefore, electricity, to be introduced into the island’s electricity network.
