The Fattoria della Piana cooperative, in Calabria, is an example of how problems can be turned into resources. Carmelo Basile, chairman of the cooperative, has had to tackle a number of problematic issues over the years, including the need to dispose of slurry from the livestock farm and waste from the dairy. For this reason he decided to install a 998kW biogas plant that not only recovers the waste produced by the farm itself but also that of neighbouring farms. The biogas plant has thus become the centre of a virtuous circle, bringing benefits not only to its owner but also to the entire community.
