The Gaya project for second-generation biomethane/RNG
Applications and technologies
When talking about second-generation biomethane/RNG, this generally refers to the biomethane/RNG obtained from lignocellulosic biomasses (such as wood and straw) that have no impact on the food supply chain. For this type of fuel, a process other than classical fermentation is used. In order to demonstrate the viability and technical feasibility of this fuel, a group of 11 partners has been working on the Gaya project for a number of years. The project, which has led to the creation of a dedicated industrial platform, is coordinated by ENGIE, the French energy company whose goal is to make the sector profitable within the next 20 years.
