Italy is a sea-lapped peninsula with infrastructures that - due to the Apennines straddling the country - cost much more than the European average.  It is also a country where the excessive use of road transport is leading to a drastic increase in air pollution. For these reasons sea-borne transport is becoming increasingly necessary.   Greater use of ships could potentially not only reduce infrastructure spending to a tenth but would also be equivalent to the use of thousands of HGVs and cars, thus reducing emissions. Last but not least, ships are perfectly suited to being fuelled by liquid biomethane.
