The current industrial vehicle fleet in Italy is the oldest in Europe. Biofuel is necessary.
Sustainable mobility
The current industrial vehicle fleet in Italy is too old. Indeed, 62% of the total number of 657,000 vehicles are anti Euro4 and thus highly polluting. Therefore, the Italian vehicle fleet is one of the most obsolete in Europe, being 13.8 years old against the average 4 years in Germany, a worrying fact which implies more than 20 years for its complete renewal.
The full picture is given by the President of UNRAE, Associazione Nazionale Rappresentanti Autoveicoli Esteri [National Association of Foreign Vehicle Representatives], who tells us how the renewal plan should be structured and what might be the role of biofuels, such as biomethane/RNG, in reducing emissions.
