30% growth in the UK’s biogas market: 617MWe, energy for 800,000 houses
Market and policy
2015 was a very successful year for the British anaerobic digestion industry: 100 new plants were installed, thus achieving an electrical output of over 600,000MW. Despite this, there was a slow down in growth, which will continue over the next few years due to changes in legislation and market uncertainties. This will lead to a decrease of 250MW in energy generation capacity in 2018. Despite the recommendations of the Fifth Carbon Budget, the number of small scale plants installed also dropped.
