The first landfill biogas plant in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, has been inaugurated in Minas do Leão. It is powered by over 3,500 tonnes of waste a day. The cogeneration plant produces 8.5 megawatts of electrical energy at full capacity, providing energy to over 200,000 people. The investment was strongly backed by Solvì, a leading company in Brazil in ecological waste treatment which also contributes heavily towards the energy efficiency of one of the world's symbolic countries in the fight to save the environment.
