Minworth: 3,000 homes in the UK heated with biomethane from sewage
Case history
We take you on a visit to Minworth, one of the water treatment plants of the UK water company Severn Trent Water. Thanks to CHP, it has been producing electricity and heat from sewage sludge for over 50 years. Since 2011, the site has also been producing biomethane, using water scrubbing as a biogas purification technology. It is the first company in Great Britain to inject biomethane directly into the national grid, constantly checking the quality via a monitoring system.
