The Austrian strategy to reduce CO2 emissions
Anaerobic digestion
Austria is focusing on manure and organic waste: if a third of the manure produced were digested with anaerobic digestion, it could reach 50% of the target for the agricultural sector in 2050. The potential is 700 million m3 of natural gas equivalent. According to Franz Kirchmeyr, of the Austrian Biogas Association, the question to be asked for the coming years is: is Europe ready to set up a circular economy?
